I happened to be there until just after 5pm, when they turned down the lights (fine) and pumped up the music - a bit loud, if one is dining with others and wants to have a convo, IMO.At Sushi Sake, we treat sushi as an interactive experience and an art form that goes far beyond traditional sushi rolls. The portion was just right and balanced out the meal quite nicely.įolks, if you've never been to Beyond Sushi, you've GOT to go, and as far as there being more than one location, I'm honestly partial to this one in Herald Square - it's spacious, with a good vibe, plenty of comfortable seating and excellent, attentive customer service. The Spicy Mang and "Salmon" Avocado rolls were equally as good, with each having a distinct blend of flavors and textures, even with the ultra fresh ginger and wasabi smothered all over them (I do love wasabi, folks!) The Chili Mango Margarita was just what it sounds like: the perfect blend of spicy and sweet, and oh so refreshing! I ordered the mocktail version of the Chili Mango Margarita along with the Beyond Sushi Classic, the Spicy Mang Roll, and the "Salmon" Avocado Maki Roll. The smoky dragon had a complex flavor profile with the eggplant unagi and ponzu glaze. This was my favorite dish of the evening.įor our main rolls, we tried the Spicy Jackfruit Crab ($17) and the Smoky Dragon ($17), and let me tell you - definitely some of the best vegan sushi I've ever had. The dumplings were some of the best I've had and the tartare was impeccable. We started with their Chick'n Dumplings ($11) and Spicy Salmon Tartare ($18), and both were incredible. It feels like you're dining high end with prices that honestly match any other restaurant in New York. ![]() The decor and service were both excellent. Beyond Sushi is an incredible spot for inventive sushi that happens to be fully plant-based. ![]()
